Fender
Fender, the iconic American guitar manufacturer’s roots trace back to 1938 when Leo Fender opened “Fender’s Radio Service” in Fullerton California, repairing radios, phonographs and amplifiers. In the early 1940s, he partnered with Doc Kauffman, forming K&F manufacturing, designing and manufacturing electric instruments and amplifiers. Production of lap steel guitars began around 1945. In 1946, Fender renamed it the “Fender Electric Instrument Company” and focused solely on manufacturing.

Fender is known for its breakthrough models and innovations such as the Telecaster, originally called the “Esquire” or “Broadcaster.” Launched in 1950, this was one of the first mass-produced solid-body electric guitars. The Precision Bass debuted in 1951 and is widely considered the first successful electric bass. The landmark Stratocaster, launching in 1954 featured three pickups, contoured body and tremolo bridge. Fender also expanded to acoustic guitars in the early 1960s with models like the “King,” “Concert” and “Classic.”
