The American Gold Buffalo Coin Series
The 1 oz Gold Buffalo is the first .9999 fine gold bullion coin minted by the U.S. Mint. Designed to strict U.S. Mint specifications, these coins experience great global esteem. They have been created every year starting in 2006, after the passing of the Presidential $1 Coin Act of 2005. Title II of this act commenced the striking and issuing for sale gold bullion coins made of 99.99% pure gold with the design of the original Buffalo Nickel. They were given a denomination of $50.
The American Gold Buffalo Coin Design
Pulling inspiration from James Earle Fraser’s legendary Buffalo Nickel, the Gold Buffalo coin displays a Native American profile on the front and a buffalo on the back side— modeled after Black Diamond, a buffalo that lived in Central Park Zoo at the turn of the century. This specific coin resurrects an amazing concept with sophisticated aspects, offering collectors a combination of aesthetic and economic value.
