Wise wombats

Did you know a group of wombats is known as a wisdom. Perfectly built for tunnelling with powerful limbs and claws as well as rodent-like front teeth, these iconic Australian marsupials are the largest burrowing mammals in the world.

2023 wombat design

The coin portrays an image of a wombat dozing amid flowering billy buttons with a blue fairywren perched on its back. As well as the inscription ‘WOMBAT’ and The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark, the reverse includes the coin’s weight, purity, 2023 year-date, and a security feature in the form of a micro-laser engraved letter only detectable with a magnifying glass.

Memorial obverse

The coin bears the official Queen Elizabeth II Memorial Obverse, featuring the Jody Clark effigy supplemented with the dates of Her Majesty’s reign – ‘1952 – 2022’. Also included on the obverse is the coin’s monetary denomination.
