Issued as Australian legal tender, the coin’s reverse portrays a kookaburra perched on a tree branch protruding from a gently rippling waterway, with a setting sun and native foliage forming a stylised background. The inscription AUSTRALIAN KOOKABURRA, The Perth Mint’s traditional ‘P’mintmark, the 2019 year-date, and the weight and purity are also included in the design.

The obverse of each coin bears the new Jody Clark effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the monetary denomination.

Each coin’s reverse includes a security feature in the form of a micro-laser engraved letter within the coin’s AUSTRALIAN KOOKABURRA heading. It is only detectable under a magnifying glass

Kookaburra’s are produced in a limited mintage each year with a different design each year making them rarer than the Koala which has no limit. Only 500,000 1oz coins will be released in 2019.
