2016 Perth Mint Silver Lunar Monkey Coin 1kg
This 2016 1kg Year of the Monkey Silver Coin is the 9th design in the Lunar Series II, and an exciting addition to Provident Metals’ offerings of Perth Mint products. Each coin contains one troy ounce of .999 fine silver and is eligible to be placed into Precious Metals IRAs, as they are backed and certified by Australia’s Perth Mint.
The reverse portrays two monkeys – an adult and a baby – perched upon a peach tree branch. The baby has a peach in its right hand. In the Chinese culture, peaches represent a long, healthy life. “Year of the Monkey” and a symbol meaning “monkey” are also engraved.
The official start of the Year of the Monkey was Feb. 8, 2016. People born during that lunar year are said to be intelligent, witty, optimistic, and adventurous. The Lunar calendar, based on the Chinese Zodiac, is a 12-year cycle featuring 12 different animals. The monkey is the 9th animal in this cycle.
The obverse, common to all the coins in the series, features a right-facing profile of Queen Elizabeth II, who just surpassed her great-great grandmother, Queen Victoria, as the longest reigning British Monarch. Inscriptions of “ELIZABETH II”, “AUSTRALIA”, “2016”, and the coin’s weight, metal purity and denomination encircle the portrait.
This Sovereign Mint coin is legal tender in Australia and guaranteed to possess one troy ounce of .999 fine silver. Due to the coin’s worldwide recognition, high-quality production, and unique design, Year of the Monkey 1kg silver coins are perfect options to increase the value of your Silver Bullion collection.
