Description
2024 Royal UK Mint Silver Beowulf and Grendal Coin 1oz
Invest in a legend of British folklore as the epic poem Beowulf inspires a new series of coins in our collection dedicated to British myths and legends. The titular character Beowulf and his enemy Grendel feature upon the first coin in a set of three new coin designs.
Believed by scholars to have originated between the eighth and the eleventh centuries, the poem Beowulf is the longest surviving poem in Old English. Aspects of Christian allegory can also be found in the poem, with the titular character Beowulf representing the fight of good over evil, and the first villain of the tale, Grendel, said to have been descended from the biblical Cain, the first murderer.
The reverse design by David Lawrence features both Beowulf and his first enemy Grendel, in epic battle. Struck in 999 fine silver, each coin is finished to The Royal Mint’s bullion standard.
