The 2022 Maid Marian 1oz silver coin is the second release in the Myths & Legends series from the Royal Mint in the U.K. The planned three-coin release retells the story of Robin Hood with modern coin designs.

The series continues to explore the folklore figures from the tale of Robin Hood. In this second release, his faithful companion and love interest Maid Marian is depicted on this beautiful silver coin.

The reverse is the depiction of Maid Marian. In most versions of the Robin Hood legend, Maid Marian is a woman of high social standing who takes Robin Hoods side in his battle to free the poor people of England from the tyranny of Prince John and his over taxation of the people. Most versions of the tale portray her as an insider who provides Robin Hood and his merry men with vital information.

The obverse is an effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. Her Majesty is shown here in the definitive fifth-generation portrait for British coins during her reign. Created in 2015, the effigy shows the Queen at the age of 89 as she wears the George IV State Diadem Crown.
