  • The face value of 500 Yuan is fully backed by the Chinese government.

  • The reverse features the image of two pandas playing.
  • Comes with a special 40th-anniversary mark.
  • Packaged in plastic pouches

Introduced in 1982, the Chinese Gold Pandas were initially measured in Troy ounces rather than grams and available in four weights. The series started with 1oz, 1/2oz, 1/4oz, and 1/10oz gold coins. In 1983, the 1/20 oz gold coin was added to the series.

In 2016, the Chinese Mint switched away from troy ounces to grams.

Each gold coin is packaged individually in plastic pouches. The 2022 issue of the coins marks the 40th anniversary of the collection and includes a special mark on the reverse field. This mark consists of a 40 on the reverse with a panda head poking through the 0.

The obverse depicts the Hall of Prayer for Abundant Harvests. This building is the largest and central structure within the Temple of Heaven, one of four major Taoist religious sites in Beijing. This design has featured on the obverse of the coins every year.

The reverse features the new Giant Panda design for this year. The two pandas appear as though they are sliding down dirt or snow, with one panda on its stomach going down with its front feet out in front of it, while the other is on its back and is going down with its hind legs first.
